The Saturday Series takes place in my shop during the winter and spring months. The focus for the past nine years has been on one specific furniture form such as a desk, sideboard, and demilune table. We start with design and follow through all of the important building steps — it’s live action, interactive, and real.
The original idea was for me to build a piece as students watch and ask questions, and they then take those skills home and work on their own design and piece.
This year we will work on CHAIRS. We will start by designing a chair with comfort and style. Steam bending will be the process to make most of the elements, as well as shaping out of the solid and possibly laminating.
As of this writing the class is filled, but contact me if you would like to know about future Saturday Series.
An early steambent chair I am redesigning and building for this class.
